Principal Responsibilities:

The Director of Finance serves as the senior financial executive of the Jewish Community Center of Atlantic County and as a strategic partner to the CEO and Board of Directors. The Director of Finance is responsible for the overall financial health, sustainability, and integrity of the organization, providing leadership across budgeting, accounting, financial reporting, forecasting, internal controls, risk management, and long-term financial planning.

This role ensures that the JCC's financial operations support its mission, programs, and strategic goals, while maintaining strong fiscal stewardship, transparency, and compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and regulatory requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Strategy & Leadership

• Serve as the primary financial advisor to the CEO, Finance Committee, and Board of Directors.
• Develop and execute short- and long-term financial strategies that support organizational sustainability and growth.
• Provide financial modeling, scenario planning, and forecasting to inform strategic decision-making.
• Translate complex financial information into clear, actionable insights for non-financial stakeholders.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Planning

• Lead the annual budgeting process in collaboration with executive leadership and department heads.
• Monitor budget performance throughout the year and recommend corrective actions as needed.
• Develop multi-year financial projections aligned with strategic planning initiatives.
• Ensure responsible cash flow management, liquidity planning and reporting.

Accounting, Reporting & Controls

• Oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, grant billing/reporting, payroll accounting oversight, and month-end/year-end close.
• Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting and reconciliation of accounts in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit fund accounting standards.
• Prepare and present financial statements and dashboards for leadership, Finance Committee, and Board review.
• Maintain strong internal controls to safeguard organizational assets and ensure financial integrity.

Audit, Compliance & Risk Management

• Serve as the primary liaison to external auditors and lead the annual audit process.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations and nonprofit reporting requirements, including IRS Form 990.
• Oversee organizational insurance coverage and risk management related to financial exposure.
• Review financial aspects of contracts, leases, and major agreements to ensure fiscal responsibility.

Revenue Oversight & Financial Sustainability

• Monitor and analyze earned revenue streams, including membership dues, program fees, rentals, and auxiliary services.
• Support grant and philanthropic reporting requirements in coordination with development staff, as applicable.
• Partner with leadership to evaluate program financial performance and cost structures.
• Identify opportunities to strengthen financial sustainability and operational efficiency.

Board & Committee Engagement

• Support the Finance Committee with regular reporting, analysis, and financial education.
• Prepare financial materials for Board meetings and participate in presentations and discussions.
• Assist Board leadership with fiduciary responsibilities and long-term financial planning.

Team Leadership

• Lead and supervise finance department staff, fostering accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Establish and ensure compliance with clear financial policies, procedures, and documentation.
• Promote professional development and best practices within the finance function.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive financial leadership experience, preferably in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization.
• Demonstrated expertise in nonprofit accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, grant management and audits.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Proven ability to communicate financial information clearly to executive leadership and boards.

Preferred

• MBA, or other advanced financial credentials.
• Experience working with Boards of Directors and Finance Committees.
• Familiarity with community-based, nonprofit, or JCC environments.
• Experience managing complex budgets with multiple funding sources.
